Distressed Shirt DIY

DIY, Fashion

This distressed trend has been taking street style by storm.  It’s been seen on Kendall Jenner, Rihanna and Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat.  I love the effortless aesthetic of this piece and was inspired to try it myself.  It was super easy and took 5 minutes to do.

Materials:

  • Shirt
  • Scissors
  • Chalk or pastel

Try on your shirt and mark the the bottom of the cut or V with chalk

Lay out the shirt and make sure that it is flat on my counter top and that the seams are lined straight.

Trace a triangle from the marked bottom of the V to the upper sides of the collar.

Now the fun part: pinch the front of your shirt by the collar and cut a small incision.

Cut along the traced line down to the bottom of the V, then cut up from the V.

Now cut around the collar.  Make sure you do not cut the collar off.

And you’re done!  Your shirt should look similar to the image below.

Pair your favorite bralette underneath and you’re all set!

Trending Tuesday: Chokers

90s, 90s trends, Boston, casual, DIY, Fashion

Happy Tuesday!

The choker is back and better than ever.  Brands have taken this trend and turned it into a modern and luxe must have accessory.  If you want to wear this trend without spending the big bucks, I have a few alternatives for you.

1. DIY. Try string, I know this sounds crazy, but this clean look is effortlessly chic.  Add a ring, or trinket from AC Moore to add some hardware.

Top: Rebecca Minkoff earrings, Middle: vintage earrings, Bottom: American Eagle earrings.

2.  If you still have it, revive your childhood chokers.  My sister has been collecting them for years, and just resurrected some of her old ones.  It’s the perfect way to add a little nostalgic grunge to your outfit.

3.  Think outside of the box, like a bracelet.  I know this sounds crazy, but I just found the perfect “choker” from JCrew.  This “choker” is actually a tie on bracelet that fit around my neck.  It’s embellished with metal and rhinestone details and has edgy aesthetic.  I may or may not have worn it all weekend.  Another bracelet that can do double duty is the leather wrap bracelet.  It has a western feel that is perfect for summer.

Grey Tee x DIY Denim

DIY, Fashion, minimalist

Today I sported my DIY high waisted shorts that I made last summer.  This pair is one of my favorites because of how high the waist goes.  I made these by grabbing mens jeans from a thrift store and cutting them into shorts.  I usually try on the jeans to make sure that they fit, and to see where they hit my waist and thighs.  One thing that I love about mens jeans is that they are never too tight, there is always leg room.  I have an issue with how short and tight women’s shorts are becoming…I don’t want to show that much leg!

Here is the outfit:

This is one of my more minimalist/monochromatic outfits. I based everything off of the grungy feel of the shorts.  I put my hair in a half up bun and wore my circular sunglasses.  I really believe that accessories play a huge part in an outfit and can sway the style however you want.  With that being said, my tank top is from Urban Outfitters, my jeans are by Carhartt, my shoes are from Nordstrom Rack by Birkenstock and my sunglasses are from Nordstrom BP.
