UWS Restaurants: Jacob’s Pickles

brunch, Fashion, food, foodie, New York, New York restaurants

If you can get in during odd hours, or are not deterred by a line, Jacobs Pickles is a great brunch spot.  The look of the restaurant perfectly compliments the southern style of the food with white tiles, brick and wood. The menu consists of delicious comfort foods in addition to a selection of pickled vegetables.

An antique looking chandelier.

Our platter of pickled goodies: Hot Sours, Kosher Dills, Sweet and Spicy Carrots, Dilly Green Beans.

Talk about an Instagram worthy meal-Jacob’s Pickles’ brunch is as good as it looks.  Their croquet madame will leave you satisfied both visually and physically.  They do not skimp on the flavor or cheese (always a plus in my book).

Their Bloody Mary topped with all the fixings (the egg was pickled!).

Croque Madame was humungous and delicious.

Travel Tuesday: The Stand Smokehouse

food, foodie, New York, New York restaurants, restaurant, yum

The Strand is a Western inspired smokehouse located in Astoria New York, where it’s typical for your eyes to be bigger than your stomach.  The interior a large industrial space with long wooden tables and a huge counter displaying all different cuts of meat.

You go up to the counter and choose your cut, pay and find your seat.  The first time I went, I was so hungry that I chose a pound of meat and a side.  This doesn’t sound or look like a lot, but I realized how much it was soon after eating.

I chose a rib and brisket with a side of mac and cheese.  I cannot put into words how delicious it was.

One word of advice, be realistic about what you will eat, because the price can easily increase.  I paid a pretty penny for my pound of meat and side, but it was totally worth it.

If you’re in New York, I highly suggest stopping in for a bite.
