Bandana Looks

city, Fashion, minimalist ootd

Bandanas aren’t just for festivals, they can be can be worn for street wear too.   Tie around them around your head, neck and, as seen recently, your ankle. I am all for this trend and decided to try it out this week with these two looks.

Soft Neutrals

Layering during winter is key to staying warm.  However, it’s hard to make a sweater versatile if you wear it on rotation.  I suggest changing the way you layer it.  I like to wear my sweater over a long blouse and put a tailored blazer over it.  This is a formal and feminine way to wear a grey sweater.  _MG_2620.jpg_MG_2628.jpg_MG_2630.jpg_MG_2634.jpg_MG_2654.jpg_MG_2670.jpg_MG_2677.jpg_MG_2666.jpgPhotography by Katie Mack Photography.

This look is polished, but doesn’t feel too formal because the denim balances the blazer and shoes.  It also transitions well from work to casual wear.

The blouse is by Mink Pink and from Urban Outfitters, the sweater is by BDG and also from Urban Outfitters, the denim is from JCrew and the blazer is from TJMaxx and by Cynthia Rowley.  The earrings are from Bloomingdales and by AQUA, the bag is from H&M and the shoes are from Nordstrom Rack and by 14th and Union.

I hope this helps your winter outfit prep!

Layered Jumpsuit

Lately, I see bloggers layering strapless tops or jumpsuits with t’s or long sleeve shirts.  I have slowly, but surely become obsessed with this trend and had to try it out.  I paired a formal strapless jumpsuit with a casual top, and this is the result.

I love the interaction between the materials of the outfit.  The shirt is comfortable and juxtaposes the structured fit of the  jumpsuit and shoes.

The grey top is from JCrew, the jumpsuit is from TJMaxx and the shoes are from DSW and by Audrey Brooke.  The earrings are from Bloomingdales and by AQUA, and the bracelet was a gift.

Street Style: Neutrals and Shearling

Today’s look has a neutral color palette with a pops of animal prints.  The basic pieces of the outfit look sleek together.  This is an easy outfit to slip on an run errands.  The pictures were taken by blogger, Roses and Rose.

Simple

Todays look was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Something Navy, her classically feminine style is always so put together and cute.  So I took a page from her book for a work outfit.

IMG_3720.JPGIMG_3731.jpgThe turtleneck is from Nordstrom BP, the pants are by JCrew, and the shoes are from Nordstrom Rack and by 14th and Union.  The blazer I wore was from TJMaxx and by Cynthia Rowley, but is not pictured here.

I pieced together a long turtleneck with metallic denim and nude pointed heels.  I wore a soft pink Cynthia Rowley blazer over it to give it structure and a feminine touch.

Although the pieces were simple, the outfit had a sophisticated touch.  The fits and pieces worked well together to create a great work outfit.

Holiday Look: Sleek in Black

Boston, Boston blogger, date night, Fashion, fashion blogger, holiday, holiday outfit,, minimalist, minimalist ootd, ootd, ootn, outfit, outfit inspiration, womens fashion, womenswear

This is a sexier take on a holiday look and is all about the tailored fit.  The all black pieces create a long, lean silhouette that flatters the body.  This is a great holiday date night outfit.  And if this is too daring for you, all you need to do is add a peplum or strapless top underneath the blazer.  I would recommend something colorful or patterned.  I originally had a velvet, cobalt blue strapless top paired with it.

The blazer is from Nordstrom BP, the pants are from JCrew, the shoes were a gift from Renvy, and the earrings are from Bloomingdales and by AQUA.

I am all about the deep V neck and I couldn’t be more pleased with the look.  The blazer acts as a top with the black pants.  The pointed shoe keeps the look polished and put together.  The leopard and acrylic materials of the shoe add an interesting texture to the outfit.

Street Style: Dark Lip and Maxi Dress

This was another look that was shot with Roses and Rose, and it was the edgiest too. The outfit is a different silhouette than I typically wear.  When I dress, I don’t usually wear fitted clothing, unless it’s balanced with a looser piece.  This dress had a monochromatic fully fitted silhouette.  The dress reads as formal because of the slim cut and long hem.  To dress it down, I paired it with a leather jacket, dark lip and Adidas sneakers.

I’m wearing a leather jacket by Bar3, dress from Zara, and shoes by Adidas.  The earrings are from Bloomingdales and by AQUA, and the bag is from LF.

We shot during the later part of the afternoon, so the sun was setting throughout the shoot.  These pictures transition from non flash to flash because of the lighting.

The jacket broke up the monochromatic dress and hit at the waist, creating a slimming effect.  The vertical stripes on the dress elongates the body and give a seamless, lean look.  When shopping for a dress, or pants, remember that vertical stripes slim and elongate the body.

Street Style: Minimalist

This weekend I met up with a fellow blogger, Roses and Rose for a photo shoot in Boston.  We switched between photographing and posing and got some incredible shots!

Photography by Roses and Rose.

The sweater is from Urban Outfitters, the pants and cocoon coat are from JCrew, and the ankle boots are from Lord and Taylor and by Sam Edelman.

The sunnies are from a local shop in Stone Harbor called Wayward Gardner, the earrings are from Bloomingdales and by AQUA, the scarf is (borrowed from my boyfriend) by Hugo Boss, my ring is by Bali Couture and my bag is from the LF in Wellesley.

It’s always fun to play with proportions when dressing.  For a comfortable look, I like to pair men’s sweaters with leggings or fitted denim and an ankle boot.  Although this sweater isn’t mens, it still has that oversized feel.  The blunt, boxy cut contrasts the tailored fit of the pants and balances them out.  To pull this look together, I opted for a cocoon coat to give a straight silhouette.

Camel x Leather

Boston, casual, fall, fashion, fashion blogger, minimalist ootd, ootd, Uncategorized, womens fashion, work ootd

Tan is a popular color this fall and has been seen both on and off the runway.  I couldn’t be happier.  This color is a warm addition to any neutral canvas and goes with just about everything.

I recently bought a sweater dress in a camel color and have been dying to wear it.  I paired the dress with leggings, ankle boots and a leather jacket.  The camel color and leather look great together.

The jacket is from Bar3, the dress is from H&M, the leggings are from Lululemon and the shoes are form Nordstrom Rack and by Vince Camuto.

The gold hardware on the shoes really ties into the warm camel color.  They give a tough edge to the look, that works well with the leather jacket.

High Socks x LBD

Boston, Boston blogger, casual, city, date, fall, Fashion, fashion, fashion blogger, feminine, grey and black, lbd, minimalist, minimalist ootd, ootd, ootn, Uncategorized, womens fashion

A little black dress is a must in any woman’s outfit, and with different cuts and styles it’s easy to find one to fit your aesthetic.  Out of the many LBDs that I have, the shift shape is my most worn.  The classic shape and crepe material make it really versatile for day or night time wear.

I wore this dress as a daytime date to the MFA and paired it with a knee high socks and a turtleneck underneath.  Over it I wore a black cuccoon coat for length and warmth.

The dress is from Nordstrom Rack, the cuccoon coat is from JCrew, and the shoes are from Lord and Taylor and by Sam Edelman.  The scarf and socks are from Urban Outfitters and the bag is from a local market in China.

This piece is titled Tongue Gilding by Lauren Kalman.  I love it!

This is another interesting piece in the contemporary section in the Museum of Fine Arts.  I am also showcasing the high socks.

How do you style your high socks?
