One Day in Tokyo

city, Fashion, food, Tokyo

Hi everyone!

I just got back from the most amazing trip to Asia.  I was able to cover Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing in a week, so you can imagine how busy I was.   I thought I’d share some pictures with you from the trip, so you could see the amazing things I experienced.

The first stop was to Tokyo.  My dad and I arrived Sunday night and left Tuesday morning, leaving only one day to explore the city.  I spent Monday traveling all about the city, seeing the sites and trying the local cuisine.  I loved it!

Shibuya

The downtown area of Tokyo.

IMG_9607

Traditional Japanese cuisine.  In the covered bowl there is tuna and rice.  In front there are spices.  In the teapot there is soup and in front of it are greens and fish for the soup.

Tuna with rice and greens.

IMG_9609

Greens and little white fish.

It was delicious!

IMG_9612

I topped it off with some Hibiki, a fine Japanese whiskey. Yum!

Back to the streets!

IMG_9616

Next we had some traditional Japanese tea.  Back left was Coarse Tea, in front was Kelp Tea, then to the right Green Tea and lastly Rice Tea.

Asakusa

The market place was busy and filled with tons of people.

Me in the middle of it all!

People bathed in smoke because it was believed to be good luck.

Here you can see the more traditional Japanese architecture.

The Sky Tree

Since we could see the Sky Tree from Asakusa, we decided on a whim to go there.

IMG_9652

On the walk there I saw this large golden sculpture and mistook it for a carrot…it is actually a golden cloud.  It sits atop a beer company’s building.

IMG_9654

We had to cross a bridge to get to The Sky Tree, this was the beautiful view.

IMG_9667

The tower is 350 meters high, over 1,000 feet.

Once inside, we took an elevator that climbed to the top in under a minute.

IMG_9710

The spectacular view.  It was extremely humbling seeing the view and realizing how big the city was.

IMG_9699

There was a section with a glass floor, that I hesitantly waddled onto.  Once I stepped onto it, I felt dizzy and my palms were sweaty…talk about fear of heights.

Japanese Steakhouse

IMG_9700

I style stalked on the subway to the Japanese Steakhouse.  The people of Tokyo are extremely stylish.

IMG_9701

Luckily, we got off the subway before the rush.  People packed into the subway like sardines.

IMG_9702

The chef prepared our food in an artful way, he was precise and creative.  It was amazing to watch!

IMG_9704

This was the main dish, which consisted of shredded onions and Wagyu Beef.  The beef had the most incredible flavor and texture, and was as soft as butter.

IMG_9705

This was the first dessert, which was a chestnut flavored dish.  The outside was a soft pasta texture and the inside was a creme-like chestnut ice cream with sauce on the outside.  Delicious!

IMG_9706

The second round of deserts was a chocolate and nut piece, lemon and lime macaroon and dark chocolate fudge.

Talk about stuffed!

Bye Tokyo!

We went to bed and flew to Shanghai early the next morning.
