Duster Coat

Fashion, womens fashion, womenswear

The duster coat has been sweeping the fashion industry by storm(pun intended).  The long coat is worn by celebrities and models alike, and has been paired with everything from jumpsuits to athleisure wear.  Two pioneers of this trend are Kendall Jenner and her sister Kim.

The duster coat is a style that everyone should get excited about because it’s timeless and extremely flattering.  Theres a reason that we’re bringing this trend back from the early 1900’s, and this time it isn’t for function.  The fit and style of the coat work in tandem to lengthen and slim the body.  The long and straight style of the coat create a streamline silhouette.  If you want to get the most out of the trend, wear the coat like Kim below.

The black “stripe” created by the undergarments creates a slimming effect and reads as one long line from head to toe.

Here’s my take on a duster look:

Laced Up

Fashion

Recently, I bought this lace up leotard at the LF annual sale.  I have been on the hunt for a lace up leotard for a while now, so finding one on sale was really exciting!  The leotard was also long in the body, so yes tall girls this leotard fits.

I paired the leotard with high waisted denim, a leather jacket and heeled boots for a late night look.

The leather jacket is by Bar3, the leotard is from LF, the denim is by American Eagle and the boots are by Vince Camuto.  The earrings are from The Closet Boutique at the Jersey Shore, the ring is by Alexis Bittar, and the clutch is vintage from The Costume Company.

This was another set of photos that I took with Roses and Rose.  This look is an edgier look that I’ve been excited to wear.

Photography by Roses and Rose.

The leather jacket is by Bar3, the turtleneck is from Nordstrom BP, the distressed denim is from American Eagle and the creepers are from Nordstrom and by Baila.

The earrings are from Bloomingdales and by AQUA, the red lip is a lip stain by NYX Cosmetics, the sunnies are from a local shop in Stone Harbor called Wayward Gardner, and the belt is from JCrew.

I enjoy juxtaposing classic and edgy pieces to create a mixed look.  The black turtleneck, leopard belt and red lip are timeless trends that always look good.  To offset this, I added the creepers, distressed denim and leather.

Thanksgiving Outfit

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite family holidays and traditions.  Ever since I can remember, my mom’s family has gathered together at my uncle or cousins house to eat, drink and enjoy each others company.  The head count is about 30 and includes uncles, aunts, cousins and new additions to the family.  The host usually makes turkey and other dishes and the rest of the family make desserts and sides.  And let me tell you, my family is filled with amazing cooks.

Whenever special occasions like this happen, I always like to dress up.  However this years outfit was a bit nicer because we were taking Christmas card pictures.

I am wearing a necklace from Free People, turtleneck from Nordstrom BP, skirt from Madewell, boots by Sam Edelman from Lord and Taylor and a bag from a market in Beijing.

I always bring my camera because I usually take family photos.

I also dressed my sister who is wearing a top from Forever21, jeans from American Eagle and boots by Sam Edelman from Lord and Taylor. Here are our Sam Edelman boots.   Here is one of the pictures my family took.  I dressed my mom as well.  She is wearing a necklace from JCrew, top from Urban Outfitters and jeans from JCrew.

Blue x Grey

fall, ootd, womens fashion

Black and blue are an interesting color combination, the are both cool tones and can look very similar.  I decided to keep my look comfortable and neutral so I chose a color combination of blue and black.

To keep the look feminine I wore my hair in a top knot, put on pink lipstick and rhinestone earrings.

I love the way the dark denim works with the light chambray blazer.

To add some interest to the outfit, I wore textured animal print flats.  I think they light tan works well the the light black and blue colors of the outfit.  My blazer is by Gibson and from Nordstrom, my denim shirt is from JCrew, my pants are from American Eagle and my shoes are from Nordstrom and by Nine West.

Here is the base of the look, it’s very simple and comfortable.

What color combos do you wear a lot of?

Kendall Jenner Inspired

Fashion, ootd, womens fashion

When I had a day off, my mom and I decided to go shopping to check out sales at Bloomingdales.  While planning my look, I browsed Pinterest for some inspiration.  I stumbled upon the Kendall Jenner section and browsed her outfits.  I was inspired by this one in particular. kj

I love how simple, but flattering her outfit is.  It is monochromatic, but makes a statement.  I have jeans in this wash and ankle boots in this style, so I decided to put my own twist on this look.

I kept with the same feel of Kendall’s outfit, but changed my top, added a lipstick and leather jacket.

The leather jacket is by Bar3, the shirt is by Lucky Brand, the jeans are by American Eagle and the boots are by Vince Camuto.

The shirt was cropped, but zipped on the sides for an edgy touch.

This is the base outfit.

It’s easy to fall in love with an outfit worn but a celebrity, but it can be just as easy to emulate it.  All you need are the basics and pieces that have the same feel as what they’re wearing.  Although I wasn’t wearing the exact same thing, I was happy with the way my outfit looked and felt on.  It felt true to my style.

I hope that this encourages you to try looks that you see and use your own style and clothes.

Black x Plaid

fall, Fashion, ootd, womens fashion

This look was a quintessential fall outfit, black, plaid and dark lips.  It’s simple, but looks cute and work appropriate.  This week I have been experimenting with scarves and how they impact an outfit.

IMG_9063

Before I paired the scarf with the look, it was a simple black and grey outfit that needed a pop of color.  I added color with a burgundy lip, but still wanted to add more.  I then looked to my closet and found this vintage plaid scarf.  The colors are subdued enough to work with the outfit, but they create a little pop.

The blazer and sweater are from JCrew, the pants are from American Eagle and the boots are from Lord and Taylor and by Sam Edelman.

Here is a close up of the scarf and dark lips.  The lips are a burgundy lip stain by Sephora and the earrings are by Lucky Brand.

Black on black is always a sleek look.

Navy x Palm Print

Uncategorized

This look was based on pairing colors and patterns together.  I planned it around a recently purchased vest from JCrew and the color palette in navy and forest green.  To add interest, I paired my palm print shirt with many hues of green with the vest.  I anchored the look with navy high waisted jeans and metallic oxfords.

The full look.

The palm print is from H&M, vest from JCrew, jeans from American Eagle and shoes from Nordstrom by Vince Camuto.  I worked in a room with students that traveled out of school, so I had to dress practically for these conditions.  The vest was great for keeping my warm and the jeans and shoes were comfortable.

I kept the jewelry simple and feminine to dress up the look.

I hope this inspires you to pair prints and colors together.

Sheer x Black

fall, Fashion, ootd, womens fashion

The other week I was invited to an event by someone who reached out to me.  She kindly invited me to her event called Celebrate YOU and I was able to meet some wonderful women including her.  This was my first time attending an event by myself and I was a bit nervous.  So I was counting on my outfit to give me some confidence. Remembering my recent purchase of a sheer blouse, I decided to pair it with some jeans and ankle boots to keep it fresh.

IMG_8853

This look mixes navy and black and plays with a formal, yet edgy facade.

The leather jacket is by Bar3, blouse is from Nordstrom Rack and by Ro and De and paired with high waisted jeans from American Eagle, and shoes from Lord and Taylor by Sam Edelman.

Here are two of the lovely women I met, Christine and Jaclyn.

Black x Black

fall, Fashion, ootd, womens fashion

Earlier, you saw Jordan’s colorful approach to a fall outfit.  Like I said in my last post, I have a more minimal style and stick to neutrals.  I paired black on black for my outfit and let the textures and let the cut outs and textures do the talking.

Monochromatic outfits can be extremely chic if you pair them properly.  I like to wear textured pieces when I am in the same color, it adds an element of surprise.  This look paired multiple textures in the same hue and proved to be very chic.  My top was in a thick sweater material with subtle vertical stitches, and my bag was furry.

The hardware was a bright gold and it pops against the black.

My top is from Urban Outfitters (I got it recently for 30% off), my pants are from American Eagle (in extra long), my bag is from LF and  my shoes are from Nordstrom Rack and by Vince Camuto.

Although the look shows a lot of skin, it is balanced by all black on the bottom.

How do you wear all black?
